Funding
Funding Type: Fully funded scholarship
Award Amount: €1,400 per month
The 2027 Erasmus Mundus Master’s scholarship is a fully funded scholarship which covers participation costs and contributes to travel, visa and living expenses. This means that an awarded scholarship holder does not normally pay the programme’s tuition/mandatory participation costs covered by the scholarship and also receives financial support for living and mobility expenses.
It does not mean that every personal expense is separately paid by the EU.
Award Amount
The Mundus scholarship awards students €1,400 per month for a consecutive 24-month programme, paid as the Erasmus Mundus student scholarship contribution toward eligible student costs, including subsistence and mobility-related expenses.
The official funding formula is:
€1,400 × number of months covered by the master’s programme
For example:
| Programme duration | Calculation | Scholarship amount |
|---|---|---|
| 12 months | €1,400 × 12 | €16,800 |
| 18 months | €1,400 × 18 | €25,200 |
| 24 months | €1,400 × 24 | €33,600 |
The official rules state that the scholarship is calculated at €1,400 per month and can cover the full duration of a 12-, 18- or 24-month master’s programme.
So, for a 24-month Erasmus Mundus master’s, the scholarship component is a total of €33,600.
Tuition Coverage
Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders are not charged tuition fees or other mandatory costs related to participation in the course by the selected Erasmus Mundus project. The programme funding covers the applicable participation costs, while the €1,400 scholarship supports the student.
Travel Allowance
Travel support is part of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship framework.
The official Erasmus+ page says scholarships contribute to:
- travel
- visa
- living allowance
The Programme Guide describes the scholarship as covering travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.
Accommodation
The scholarship award does not necessarily provide free accommodation; the scholarship’s financial support contributes toward living expenses, including accommodation. Some individual Erasmus Mundus programmes may arrange student residences or provide accommodation assistance, but this depends on the programme.
Duration: 12, 18 or 24 months, depending on the selected Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme.
Other Benefits
Depending on the programme, students can receive support connected with:
- travel between study locations;
- visa expenses;
- installation costs;
- living expenses;
- insurance;
- accommodation assistance;
- student services;
- additional support for eligible students with disabilities.
The exact arrangements can differ between Erasmus Mundus master’s programmes.
