Band 7 Preparation Guide
Use this roadmap with timed practice and regular review.
Listening
Train prediction, spelling, number accuracy and signposting. Practise all four sections without pausing.
- Read questions before each recording
- Respect word limits exactly
- Review distractors, not only wrong answers
Reading
Build skimming, scanning and evidence-location skills. Never answer from general knowledge.
- Underline decisive words
- Distinguish False from Not Given
- Keep a strict 20-minute passage limit
Writing
Plan before writing and reserve time to check grammar. Task 2 carries more weight.
- Answer every part of the prompt
- Use clear paragraph progression
- Prefer accurate vocabulary to forced complexity
Speaking
Develop answers naturally with reasons and examples. Do not memorise scripts.
- Record and review complete responses
- Use the Part 2 minute to organise notes
- Practise paraphrasing unfamiliar ideas
